Redline Home Guard AGM Held at Historic Wallingford Town Hall

This year’s Annual General Meeting of the Redline Home Guard was held in fitting surroundings at the historic Wallingford Town Hall, an impressive landmark in the heart of the town. Dating from the late seventeenth century, the building has long served as the civic centre of Wallingford, hosting council meetings, community gatherings and countless moments in the town’s history. Its grand interior provided an excellent setting for the group to reflect on another successful year.

The evening began with the Chairman’s report, which looked back over the past twelve months and highlighted the continued growth and success of the group. From public events and displays to training evenings and historical research, the Redline Home Guard has continued to build momentum, strengthening both its membership and its reputation for delivering engaging and authentic living history.

The Marketing Officer then provided an overview of the group’s growing digital presence. Over the past year, the Redline website and social media channels have continued to expand their reach, helping to share the group’s activities with a wider audience and supporting our mission to bring the story of the Home Guard and Stop Line Red to life.

The Treasurer’s report gave members a clear overview of the group’s finances, confirming that the organisation remains on a solid footing. Meanwhile, the Secretary summarised the administrative work behind the scenes that keeps the group running smoothly, from coordinating events and training evenings to managing membership and administration.

With the reports concluded, attention turned to the committee. As the group continues to grow, the AGM provides an opportunity for members to review the leadership team responsible for guiding the organisation. The existing committee members stood for re-election and were once again supported by the membership, reflecting confidence in the direction and progress of the group. Pte Winney, Pte H. Gleave, and Pte Gourley were elected as additional committee members to help guide the group through the next twelve months.

The meeting concluded in good spirits, with members looking ahead to another busy year of training, events and research. If the past year has shown anything, it is that the Redline Home Guard continues to go from strength to strength as both a living history group and a community of enthusiastic volunteers dedicated to preserving and sharing this important part of our local wartime heritage.
