This past weekend the Redline Home Guard attended the White Horse Military Show, an outstanding event that brought together over a thousand reenactors from across different eras, conflicts, and countries.

The show is organised by a man whose day job is building film and TV sets, giving him access to an incredible range of set pieces that help make the displays truly immersive. Making the most of these, we constructed a bombed-out photography studio, complete with rubble and a 50kg German bomb. We portrayed a Home Guard bomb disposal team, tasked with uncovering and making safe the bomb while also keeping members of the public protected.

Seven members of the platoon camped over for the weekend, taking part in a number of set-piece scenarios. We cheered on the victory parade of an impressive line of Allied vehicles bringing troops home from battle, and later during a mock air raid, we worked alongside the local ARP wardens to assist casualties. On Sunday morning, we were honoured to stand alongside fellow reenactors during a moving remembrance service.

The event offered more than just living history displays – throughout the weekend we enjoyed fantastic musical entertainment, from singers performing wartime favourites to a full orchestra concert on Saturday which had everyone tapping along to vintage classics. Right next to our display stood the cinema, which transported visitors back in time with authentic 1940s films and newsreels running throughout the weekend.

It was a truly memorable event, filled with atmosphere, camaraderie, and a real sense of stepping back in time. The Redline had a brilliant time and we look forward to returning next year.
