Redline Home Guard AGM & Training Evening – A Year of Progress

Last week’s training evening marked a significant milestone for the Redline Home Guard as we held our first Annual General Meeting (AGM), reflecting on a year of growth, dedication, and historical engagement.

A Year of Strength and Success

The AGM provided an opportunity to look back on our first year as a living history group. Reports from the Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, and Marketing Officer highlighted just how far we’ve come—establishing ourselves as a dedicated and growing community of reenactors, delivering immersive experiences, and continuing to develop our historical research and public engagement.

With this in mind, the existing committee members all stood for re-election, and with full support from the membership, were unanimously voted back in to continue leading the group into its second year.

A Look Back at the Home Guard

Following the AGM, we had the pleasure of hearing from Pte Gleave, who delivered an insightful presentation on the history of the Home Guard. From its formation in 1940 as the Local Defence Volunteers to its evolution into a well-trained auxiliary force, the talk reminded us why we do what we do—keeping the stories of these wartime volunteers alive.

PIAT Demonstration

Rounding off the evening, 2/LT Chambers gave a detailed and informative talk and demonstration on the PIAT (Projector, Infantry, Anti-Tank). While not issued to the Home Guard, some auxiliary units did receive training on this powerful weapon. The demonstration focused on its design, operation, and intended role in anti-tank warfare, offering an excellent hands-on look at a fascinating piece of WWII equipment—without firing anything, of course!

Looking Ahead

With a strong foundation built over the past year, we look forward to another year of events, training, and historical reenactment. The Redline Home Guard is thriving, and we’re excited to see where the next twelve months take us!

Stay tuned for upcoming events, and as always, keep the home fires burning!
