On 18th February a group of Redline Home Guards attended rifle practice at the shooting range of the Wantage Target Rifle Club under the guidance of 2/Lt P. Chambers, a qualified Range officer of the club. After a full safety briefing, the day started with using air-rifles with the targets set at 10 metres to enable the Guards to familiarise themselves with handling and using the weapons. Groups of three Guards took turns to fire 10 shots at the targets before the range was pushed back to 20 yards for the rest of the day.
Two further rounds of 10 shots were taken at the 20 yard targets before the group broke for lunch after which it was time for the qualification shoots. 10 shots at 20 yards, needing a score of 65+ to qualify and a score of 85+ to achieve the grade of Marksman.

Happily, every Guard surpassed the pass mark, and one achieved the Marksman grade, beginner’s luck perhaps as it was his first time at a shooting range or using a gun of any kind!
A thoroughly enjoyable day which we’ll be aiming to repeat several times throughout the year. The scores from the day will go towards to the HG Marksmanship Cup to be presented at the end of the year for the best overall shot.
